Kicking off your Mates in Mind Journey – the role of Club

Peer-Mentors

One of the key aspects of the Mates in Mind community is that of the Club Peer Mentors.

Club Peer Mentors are people within your Club who are approachable and community-minded, people who are passionate about helping create an environment where members feel welcomed, supported and connected.

Club Peer Mentors are not expected to be counsellors or mental health professionals. The role is simply about being a visible, approachable and supportive presence within the Club community.

The selection of Peer Mentors is an important part of establishing a supportive and approachable Mates in Mind presence within the Club community.

"Mentors/Peer Mentors do not need to be mental health professionals or experts. The role is centred around connection, visibility and approachability rather than any qualifications or experience."

The training covers the following critical areas to set everyone up for success. Some of the topics include:

Physical vs Mental Health

Barriers to Help-Seeking & Help-Giving

Peer Support - What we can/can’t do

How to ask about suicide

Warning Signs - What we See & Hear

The role of self-care

Referral resources and contacts

And much more!

Your Relationship Manager can work with you to book in your training. Once trained, introduce your Mentors/Peer Mentors to your Club!

We are keen to stay connected with you while you embed Mates in Mind into your Club community. There will be regular check-ins and online engagement with the Mates in Mind team to assist you and your Club.
